Oakdale Guardian House Fundraiser
Sconza and Oakdale Sportsmen’s Club have several things in common. First they were each founded in 1939 and have been going strong for 79 years. They also partnered to fund raise for the Guardian House local Oakdale charity that helps women and children.
This December, Dave “Bubba” Bellington and Dennis Dias took on the fundraising task with the goal of raising $2,000. Sconza Candy Company provided a candy basket and private tour for four of the chocolate factory, and lots of delicious candy at our December meal. OSC met this challenge with $500 dollars raised at our dinner from our members, all the bar tips, and profits from the dinner raffle. The sections of our Club also each kicked in to reach the $2,000 mark. In addition the OSC Pistol Section donated a $500 check.
The funds raised went towards buying books for children ages 1 – 13 years of age. On December 23 the OSC and Sconza teams met at the Guardian House and presented the books and $500 check. Special thank you Delanie Bellington for her excellent selection and ordering of all the books purchased. The book company also matched 50 cents on every dollar so total $3,000 of books were purchased!
We are proud of this joint effort and it was special presenting to the Founder Elsie Martin and Guardian House staff just in time for Christmas. These books will establish a Guardian House library and can be given to the children they help.

Trap Section Hosts Nora Ross Clinic
On October 22nd and 23rd, Oakdale Sportsmen's Club Trap Section had the honor and privilege of hosting world renowned trapshooter Nora Ross for a two day clinic. Nora started shooting ATA registered targets in 1975. Her accomplishments and awards are too numerous to list but one
of her biggest wins was winning the Doubles Championship at the Grand American in 1990. Nora shot 100 straight and then 120/120 more in extras in a shoot off to beat Ray Stafford for the title. To this date, Nora is the only woman to ever win this title. She has won over 150 trophies at the Grand
American and has been on over 25 All American teams and was Captain more times than not. Nora is also the youngest member to ever be inducted into the National Trapshooting Hall of Fame and the Kentucky State Hall of Fame.
The ten participants in the clinic spent a total of sixteen hours, either watching video of themselves shooting, listening to Nora’s detailed instruction or shooting targets. Everyone came away from the clinic with new knowledge on how to approach the three different disciplines of trapshooting and a smile on their face. Nora travels from April to November putting on two day clinics all over our nation. She was very impressed with our club and the talent of the participants in the clinic. A huge thank you to all that helped to make these two days one for the memory books!
